The Gates In Human Design
The numbers on the sides of your Human Design chart show your activated gates/gene keys and represent energies you always carry with you.
The spread and type of gates activated in your chart shows a very personal narrative about who you were designed to be in this life. For me as a reader, the magic of Human Design truly lives in the gates and what makes each person unique.
Planetary ACTIVATIONS
In addition to the individual gate energies you hold and whether they are unconscious or conscious, each gate has an astrological activation. This adds a specific focus to the flavor or energy of the gate expression.
Each planetary or astrological activation has a way it expresses, so the combination of your individual gate energies, if they are unconscious or conscious, and what planetary activation they have will all tell a different story.
In Human Design, each planet is seen as a different lens through which the energy of a Gate can be expressed. The exact meaning of a planet's influence in a gate will depend on the specific gate in that activation and how it compares to the rest of your Human Design chart.

☉ Sun: The Sun represents your conscious, outward, and most consistent traits. It contributes 70% of celestial energy that you receive, making it one of the most important influences in your Human Design.
🌎 Earth: The Earth represents grounding and practical aspects of your life. It shows the environment in which you learn best and thrive. As we are always connected to the energy of the Earth, these activations in combination with your Sun, will be impactful on a daily basis.
☽ Moon: The Moon shows subconscious drives and desires. It can indicate what you need to feel secure and comfortable and is also tied to your emotional health and needs.
☊ North Node: This represents your future direction and potential growth. It's what you're moving towards in this life and what energy you may embody more as you mature and grow.
☋ South Node: This represents your past and what you're moving away from. It's the knowledge and skills you've already mastered and are operating from by default. As you move through your life, you might start to release some of your South Node patterns and reach towards your North Node activation.
☿ Mercury: Mercury shows how you process information and communicate. It's associated with thinking, learning, and all forms of expression.
♀︎ Venus: Venus shows what you value and find beautiful. It's associated with relationships, love, and what you appreciate in life. Our family and personal values are anchored in our Venus.
♂︎ Mars: Mars shows your willpower, energy, and drive. It can represent how you take action and assert yourself. This willpower and drive also holds a youthful innocence that pushes forward towards new things.
♃ Jupiter: Jupiter shows where you may experience abundance and expansion. It's associated with growth, optimism, and learning. When the energies in this activation are embraced, they should lead to more blessings.
♄ Saturn: Saturn shows where you may face challenges and restrictions that lead to maturity. It's associated with discipline, responsibility, and structure. When we get too far off a supportive path, Saturn makes sure we reroute. When this activation feels challenging, it’s time to reflect, reroute, or reconsider.
♅ Uranus: Uranus shows where you may experience sudden change and innovation. It's associated with individuality, freedom, and revolution. This is also where we see the qualities that are a little unique and different to you. It may be how you naturally express your individuality and set yourself apart.
♆ Neptune: Neptune shows where you may experience dreams, illusions, and spiritual insights. It's associated with mysticism, compassion, and intuition. I often use this placement as a compass and key to further spiritual development. Embracing the energetic quality of your gate here should have spiritual rewards. This is a theme you will work with repeatedly, returning to a deeper layer each time.
♇ Pluto: Pluto shows where you may experience transformation and rebirth. It's associated with power, evolution, and regeneration. This is where we cycle through endings to come to new beginnings. Similar to Neptune, it has a spiritual flavor due to its transformative qualities. It is also a gate you will work with again and again as you evolve and change.
